A specific example of a valley is Death Valley. It is a deep trough that is 130 miles long. Death Valley is located in Eastern California and extending into Nevada. Death Valley is a graben. It was formed when a block of the earth’s surface dropped down at a fault. Death Valley is extremely hot. The highest temperature is 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Death Valley is the lowest point in the United States. It is 282 feet below sea level. In 1873, miners discovered borax, gold and silver in the nearby mountains. In conclusion, Death Valley is a ghost town because when the mining ended people left because the climate was too hot to survive.
